The eyes of the competition Jiu-Jitsu world were turned to California past this weekend, where the 15th Jiu-Jitsu Pan-American took place. Now it’s the Middle East’s turn to get all the attention.

That is where the World Cup JJ Pro will take place, on May 1st and 2nd, in the city of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. Organized by black belt Carlos Santos and sponsored by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the competition promises to bring the level of competition Jiu-Jitsu up a notch. There’s no lack of incentive, as more than US$ 111 thousand and medals are up for grabs.

With the tournament a month away, the names to qualify for the all-expense-paid trip to compete were defined, in the six qualifiers that took place around the world, were announced. From Brazil, the standouts were: Guilherme Mendes (-65kg); Gustavo Campos (-85) Cláudio Calasans (-75), among others. These athletes will have fight, room and board all paid for by the committee organizing the event which, Carlos Santos always emphasizes, is open to all competitors. The difference being that those selected go for free, while the others interested in competing will have to pay their own way.

Sign-ups are now open. To guarantee your place by April 18, the fee is US$ 40. Then it raises to US$ 60.
